2025 MGMC Mini-Conference and Material Fair

The MGMC Mini-Conference for 2025 continued the consortium’s efforts to define what constitutes a medical-grade material, with a session focused on the ongoing work of the ASTM Medical-Grade Cohort to formalize a national standard including input from medical device manufacturers and other material purchasers and incorporating recommendations from previously published MGMC white papers and the recently released ‘soft guidelines.’
Sessions on the first day of the conference addressed medical material quality, obsolescence, and procurement, as well as ethylene oxide (EtO) sterilization trends and EtO alternatives to improve material compatibility. Day two of the conference focused on the theme of sustainability for materials used in medical technologies, with a panel discussion involving experts from Johnson & Johnson and material suppliers, and a special session on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and PFAS alternative chemistries.
