The MGMC Mini-Conference for 2026 will continue the consortium’s efforts to define what constitutes a medical-grade material, with a session focused on ongoing work of the ASTM Medical-Grade Cohort to formalize a national standard. Additional sessions on the first day of the conference will address medical material quality, lubricants, adhesives, coating technologies, and procurement, as well as ethylene oxide (EtO) sterilization trends and alternatives to EtO sterilization techniques.
Day two of the conference will focus on the theme of sustainability for materials used in medical technologies, with an update from the MGMC Sustainability Cohort, a session on guidelines for selecting sustainable materials, and a sustainability panel discussion involving experts from Johnson & Johnson and material suppliers. The day’s presentations will also include several sessions on the regulatory landscape for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and PFAS alternative chemistries.
